U.S. Army Celebrates 246th Birthday Monday

The United States Army celebrates its 246th birthday Monday, having been founded June 14, 1775.
The Army was created by the United States Congress as there was an urgent need for professionally-trained soldier to combat the British.
Before its creation, most of the fighting was done by colonial militias which were mostly farmers who fought on a part-time basis.
Congress authorized ten full regiments of riflemen to be established. Two days later, an Adjutant General ‘s Corps, Finance Corps, the Army Corps of Engineers, and Quartermaster Corps were created. The first full infantry wouldn’t be established until June 1784.
Some interesting facts about the United States Army and it’s history are: Twenty-four U.S. Presidents served in the United States Army. George Washington chose the colors of the modern U.S. Army uniform.
Being established prior to July 4, 1776, the U.S. Army is older than the United States.
Over the past 10 years, Green Berets have been deployed in over 135 countries worldwide
The U.S. Army is the second largest employer in the U.S. The U.S. Army has seen it all, from the Revolutionary War to the conflicts in Iran and Afghanistan.
