Gene Watson Show at Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium, Rescheduled for Saturday October 23

The concert for Country singer and recording artist Gene Watson originally scheduled for Saturday, October 2 has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium. APPLAUSE members receive 2 tickets with their membership. Tickets purchased for the October 2 show will be honored on the October 23 show.

The Gary Ward art show opening on October 2 will still go on as planned for APPLAUSE members at the Henderson Gallery at 6 p.m. Gary Ward, Western painter, and sculptor, will have an exhibit that runs two weeks on Sundays 2-4 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays 4-6 p.m.

Gene Watson was born in Palestine, Texas and started his music career in the 1960s in local nightclubs...

During the day, he worked in a Houston body shop. He built a strong local audience and released his premiere single on Sun Valley Records. In 1964, the Grand Old Opry duo, the Wilburn Brothers took Watson on the road. The Wilburn Brothers also took Watson to Nashville for the first time where he sang on Grand Ole Opry and received a standing ovation. Afterwards, they took him to the Ernest Tubb Record Shop where he broadcast on the Midnight Jamboree. Gene achieved mainstream success when Capitol Records picked up Love in the Hot Afternoon. He has since gone on to have many hit songs.
