National Influenza Vaccination Week is Dec. 5-11.

December is National Influenza Vaccination Month, and to acknowledge this, the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD) would like to emphasize the importance of getting a flu shot. It is not too late! We will do walk in flu shots, if we have a nurse available, so do not wait to protect yourself, and the ones you love.

We have high dose flu vaccine for age 65 and older, regular flu for ages 19-64, for an associated cost or accept Medicare Part B and Vaccine for Children flu vaccine for age 6 months through 18 years old with no insurance or have Medicaid or CHIP, if not there is an associated cost.

SNCHD continues to administer the Moderna covid vaccine on Thursdays, by appointment only. We also have Pfizer for 5–11-year-olds.

Immunization clinic is held every Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. & 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and the second Wednesday of each month until 6 p.m. Immunization clinic on Wednesday, Dec. 29 has been cancelled.

The SNCHD will be closed on Fri., Dec. 24 and Mon., Dec. 27 for the Christmas holiday and Fri., Dec. 31 for New Years.

The Big Country Medical Reserve Corps (BCMRC), an organization of dedicated volunteers strengthening our community and public health. The BCMRC plans to start back with monthly meeting soon. If you are interested in becoming a member, contact Richard Acuna at 325 235-5463.

Family Planning services available through Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department include pap smears, breasts exams, pregnancy testing, and methods of birth control pills: depo provera (the shot), condoms, spermicides, IUDs (intrauterine device), Nuva Ring, Nexplanon (hormonal implant) and testing/treatment for STIs. Clients must be able to still have children. Clients must be uninsured (without private health insurance); we do accept Medicaid and the Healthy Texas Women’s Program. For adolescents/minors’ parental involvement is encouraged but parental consent is not required for Family Planning services. Hours are Monday thru Thursday 8:30 to 11:30 and 1:00 to 4:30. The health department is screening, testing, and treating clients for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. HIV testing is available with clients referred elsewhere for treatment, if needed. Testing will be provided upon request, if possible, otherwise an appointment will be scheduled. To obtain an appointment please call 325-235-5463 Monday-Thursday from 8:30-11:30 and 1-4:30.
