Financial Exploitation Seminar and Luncheon at SNAP on Tuesday, May 24

By JOSEPH GRANT Editor

There will be a Luncheon and Seminar on Financial Exploitation at the SNAP Building on Tuesday, May 24 at 12 p.m.

Lunch will be provided at no cost for those who attend.

The presentation will be provided by Randy Rowes, Chief Risk Officer of First Financial Bank and Billy Sides, Fraud Investigator for First Financial Bank .

The presentation will offer ideas and tools for protecting oneself against online, mail and phone scams that are prevalent in our modern age. Scammers call unsuspecting residents in the hopes of trying to gain financial data. Scammers can dangle trips or prizes that have been supposedly won but also use a hard approach, as well. The callers are very persuasive, and polite and prey on elderly victims. After the trust is established, the caller then requests the personal information such as credit card numbers or bank accounts or PIN numbers from residents. None of this information should ever be given to a caller. Criminals are using a method of spoofing, which refers tricking or deceiving someone using either by phone or computer. This is typically done by hiding one’s identity or faking the identity of another user on the Internet. It is also how the cheat has been able to find the telephone number of the intended victim.

The SNAP Building is located at 1701 Elm Street.
