Lady Mustangs lose at Miles

MILES — Life on the road continued Tuesday for the Sweetwater volleyball team as it lost in four games to Miles by scores of 22-25, 12-25, 25-22, 19-25.

Shelby Dent finished with seven kills and C.J. Cox and Aunisti Griffin six, while Avery Biera assisted on 13 kills. Lauren Biera led the Lady Mustangs with three aces and 19 digs. Griffin had 10 digs, Trinity McGee nine and Avery Biera eight.

Sweetwater — who won’t be at home until Aug. 30 vs. Jim Ned — will be back on the road on Friday and Saturday at the Nita Vannoy Memorial Tournament in San Angelo. On Aug. 26-27 Sweetwater will make a trip to Seminole’s tournament.

Mary Thompson had four kills and Lavona Sarabia three vs. Miles. Thompson also had five kill assists and Kallie Torres three while four players — Cox, Griffin, Caitlin Carr and Sarabia — had one block.

Sweetwater hasn’t won this season since Aug. 9 at

Brady in its opener with a young team taking on several tough opponents. But its JV won Tuesday by beating Miles in two games by scores of 25-19, 25-20.

Both Bailey Bromley and Milani Torres had three kills while Mia Gonzales, Ange Mekogue and Marly Weaver had two kills.

Weaver also had a teamhigh five aces and three assists. Kieran Leatherwood had three aces and two assists. Esmerelda Vera and Mekogue had two digs.
